When Things Are Squirrelly Go Towards

One of our mottos is, Go Towards. When life feels squirrelly and the path ahead uncertain, we remind ourselves to go towards.

Going toward does not mean that we always move forward. When there are big rocks, quicksand, or a bear in our path, that won’t work. Usually, we have to adapt and change directions more quickly than we’d like.

The trick is to avoid getting so squirrelly that we lose direction and crash. If we try responding instead of reacting and remind ourselves that most paths aren’t straight lines, maybe we can embrace the squirreliness and go towards.

Velocity and momentum are powerful forces.

Spinning in circles doesn’t get us anywhere, and as the old non-joke joke goes, it isn’t the fall that kills us, it’s the sudden stop.

When we’re pushing ourselves things are bound to get a little squirrelly. That’s usually when we realize how much we are making things up as we go.

The big not-so-secret secret is that we are all making it up – just some of us look a little less squirrelly as we go. And that’s OK. We’re not all coming from the same place or on the same adventure. Most of the time, holding on long enough to try again is a win.

So when things get squirrelly, we remember what we are going towards. We know it won’t look graceful, but going towards is our best plan for doing the next right thing.
