About Us

Adventure Nerds is about exploring, learning, and connecting people to ideas and each other.

Adventure – An exciting activity into the unknown.

Nerds – A group of intellectual people who spend excessive time on non-mainstream topics or activities.

We started Adventure Nerds because:

  • We wanted to help more people access more adventures with reliable and relevant resources.
  • We wanted to hear more stories about adventure.
  • We wanted to connect adventurers and build a community that inspired learning and action.

Our goals are to:

  • Elevate the learning that happens through adventure.
  • Create an inclusive community for the adventurous and curious.
  • Build resources that inspire, educate, and support all types of adventurers.
  • Create opportunities for others.

The best way to support Adventure Nerds is to share it with others. With enough contributing members, we can do amazing things. Join us!

You can also support us by sharing and subscribing to the free Adventure Almanac podcast and the Adventure Nerds newsletter.

The Team

Nate is an educator and adventurer that has led groups on adventures across five continents and over 40 countries. He is a Ph.D student and has many years of experience working for adventure companies and educational organizations. He has designed countless experiential education courses and a wide variety of training programs for teachers and businesses. He is a sucker for dogs and ice cream.

MH is an educator, adventurer, and physician assistant that has led adventures in the Caribbean and Central America. She has also trained medical professionals to respond to emergencies in remote areas with limited access to medical care. She has split her career between education and medicine and thrives when she combines all of her passions together. Being outside, bears and chocolate are guaranteed to make her smile.

Diversity and Inclusion

We believe that diversity is beautiful and essential. We believe that diversity is an active inclusive process without an endpoint. We believe respect is fundamental and it is our responsibility to seek to understand. We believe we will make mistakes and must continue to learn, and that is part of life’s adventure. Regardless of race, gender, culture, ability, or other unique characteristics about you, adventure is for you. If you are kind, curious, and seek to lift other people up, come join us as a member or writer.

We acknowledge that we occupy the native land of the Shakori, Eno, and Skaruhreh/Tuscarora people of North Carolina.
